the art of the surprise gift

Gifting is an art. The options are endless, just as the holidays are numerous. While gifts on Christmas and Hanukkah are almost mandatory, it is also nice to surprise your business network. Both outside of the holidays and with a more thoughtful package.

You would like to take your clients out for dinner to show them your gratitude, but you have 2000 clients. Instead of trying to make the schedules meet and going crazy guessing everyone’s favorite sushi, you can send them an unexpected gift. Perhaps twice a year, because you want them to do business with you. Surprise them with a special gift on an ordinary day and they will sign the contract -the one they are so reluctant about.

While your employees expect a gourmet food gift basket for New Year’s to enjoy wine and chocolate when they are not at caffeinated at work, they might not expect anything on their birthday -”do they even know my birthday?” they probably wonder.

And your business partner might not expect to see a package with a bow on the office’s table -especially after the disagreements you had. But the gift will bridge the gap, reminding your partner that you are in it together. And that you are not always right -which could be the note on the card.

Everyone celebrates the Fourth of July with stars and stripes flags, blue and red hats, barbeque sauces. Surprise your business network by doing something different and reminding them of barbeque and gratitude when they least expect it.

The beauty of a gift is the surprise, which is why children love Santa Claus so much -who is he? When will he come?

Your partners will love the note on top of it and the personal and thoughtful message it delivers. Your clients will love unwrapping the package you sent them -or savoring the chocolate of the gift baskets. Your employees will love bragging about their generous boss to their friends.

Gifting is an art and it can be a stressful one. The options are endless, but so are the surprises.
